Outreach - FG

Outreach

Provide copies of Forward Day by Day to shelters and hospitals with St. Paul’s name imprinted on them

Designate a larger portion of our operating budget for outreach (especially directed toward Disaster Relief)

Find way to build a more racially diverse congregation

Establish connections with shelters so that we can cooperate/support their ministry

Find out what other needs our soup kitchen clients have – and address them

Combine efforts with other congregations in the downtown/southside area

Focus our outreach ministry on people in our neighborhood (w/in 2.5 miles of the church)

Develop health ministries that we can offer in our neighborhood

We have a special call for ministry in the immediate neighborhood

A more active outreach program may help draw in some of the growing downtown condo/loft population

We could explore a focused connection with Ruth’s House and Holly House (women’s shelters)

We have the demographic profile to be able to offer a program of “foster grandparents” for kids in the immediate neighborhood

Start a program of “legal triage” to criminals and their families in order to provide referrals to attorneys

Offer a tax preparation service for seniors and those in the neighborhood

Participate in a Habitat for Humanity build

Do things in addition to giving money

Intentional congregational involvement to move us away from just writing a check (to church, or by church to others)

Need to grow our own sense of stewardship – larger budget

Better communication about progress of outreach plans (and of the Long Range Planning)

Never write a check without a parallel tangible involvement

We don’t need to re-invent the wheel – help out at existing ministries.

More education/visibility for our outreach ministry

A page a month in Epistle on one of our Outreach Recipients

Coupons/vouchers for parishioners to purchase to give out to those needing meal.

“Give-away” Saturday at Christmas at church for parishioners to bring in their excess for others to take for free

Let people know that it is better for our own overall health to show up and do outreach rather than write check.
